It's hard to believe, but it's really here. The end of a dramatic era. The end of one of the few television shows that would have the leader of the free world rescheduling a national speech. The end of L O S T.
What's going to happen? Here are my thoughts.
The Island
The Island is the physical manifestation of Good vs Evil, Heaven vs Hell, God vs the Devil battleground. The power of these semi-deities is expressed in the electromagnetic energy that Charles Widmore is so keen to harvest. I feel that he understands the power of the energy and wants that power for himself.
Jacob and his Nemesis
Jacob and his nemesis are the physical representations of Good vs Evil.
What's going to happen
Unfortunately, the drawback of a physical representation of an immortal self is that it's, well, mortal. Jacob and his Nemesis aren't going to live forever, apparently, even though they do have some unexplainable tricks up their sleeves (think smoke monster and gifting immortal life to another person). So...
Jack will replace Jacob: In the past few episodes, Jack seems compelled to stay on the island. Why is that? Everyone is getting ready to leave (including Kate, supposedly the woman he loves). What does he have on the island to live for? Doesn't seem like much, but he can't seem to stay away. He'll stay and replace Jacob.
Sawyer will replace the Nemesis: Just like the Nemesis, Sawyer cannot wait to get off of the island. And just like the Nemesis, he cons and tricks the fellow island inhabitants to his will. Doesn't really seem like a far cry to what the Nemesis misdoing right now.
Everyone else is going to die: At least, in the original timeline. Only Jack and Sawyer will survive and replace Jacob and his Nemesis, and everyone else will perish in an attempt to get off of the island.
The two time lines will merge: Once everyone else has perished and Jack and Sawyer accept their fate on the island, the Incident will occur. The island sinks, everyone on it dies, the timeline resets, and everyone continues their lives in the alternative timeline, always haunted and chasing the ghosts of the original timeline inside of their consciousness.
Overall
While the pagan gods above continue their own never-ending wars across the span of the universe, they watch with slight anticipation and mild humor their representatives wage battle on the ground. The Losties are caught in the middle.
